This is the fourth article in the series of five that I promised to write, and it will supplement the argument in support of Rarara’s honorary doctorate.
For those who have been following my previous compositions, it is clear that I am fully committed to this cause. I have said it before, and I’ll say it again: Alhaji Dauda Kahutu Rarara deserves more than an honorary degree.
In less than a week, news broke that Rarara was crowned “Sarkin Mawakan Hausa”—The King of Hausa Singers. This title places him above all other titled singers in Hausaland, and importantly, it was given to him based on merit.
It surprises me that some people are still questioning this well-deserved honor. A few weak-minded singers have even gone so far as to compose mocking songs about the revocation of Rarara’s honorary doctorate.
Let me remind them: these are the same singers who have contributed little or nothing to humanity.
Rarara was awarded the honorary doctorate for two major reasons:
1. His humanitarian contributions
2. His promotion of Hausa culture through poetry as a genre of literature
When we examine both reasons carefully, we will realize that each one alone justifies a higher recognition than an honorary degree.
I wholeheartedly celebrate his coronation as the King of Hausa Singers, conferred by the Emir of Daura, Katsina State. And I wait patiently to see who will dare to challenge this one.
Rarara’s talent is a God-given gift, and people should stop challenging what the Almighty has bestowed upon His servant.
I pray for goodwill and continued success as Rarara assumes his rightful place as Sarkin Mawakan Kasar Hausa.
