The Ali-Keri (also known as Kiri) chieftaincy has once again witnessed the celebration of the Mendamo Cultural Festival after five years of suspension.
Sons and daughters of Deera, especially those residing in Gowat, turned out in large numbers to celebrate the Mendamo Festival in Kiri. The festival had been halted for five years due to chieftaincy disputes.
Now, with the conflict over the throne finally resolved and Abba Yoola crowned as the new Amna Keri, the Mendamo Cultural Festival returns—filled with joy, laughter, and vibrant celebration.
Abba Yoola hails from the Kamonini lineage, one of the ruling clans that have governed Kiri for over seven centuries. His enthronement marks a new era of peace and unity among the Deera people.
Today is a moment of great happiness for all Deera sons and daughters, as they revive and honor their age-old traditional celebration, Mendamo—a thanksgiving festival observed by the Miya-Gowat people to express gratitude to their ancestors for the blessing of new harvests.
Long live Amna Keri! Long live the spirit of Mendamo!
